Normal glass doesn't have the problem of "aging" in the natural environment. The chemical composition of glass is very stable. In the natural state, the performance of glass is not weakened by sunlight, rain and fog, and it can also resist common acid and alkali erosion. Generally, there are two conditions that affect the life of glass, humid air and high temperature. The chemical reaction caused by long-term storage of glass or humid weather, rainbows, mildew spots/spots, watermarks, mimeographs, paper patterns and other phenomena appear on the glass surface under sunlight, commonly known as glass mold, also known as anti-alkali.
Glass laminates are more prone to mildew when they are stored in a damp warehouse or exposed to rain. Generally speaking, untempered original glass is more prone to mildew than tempered glass.
We can use white vinegar to deal with the phenomenon of glass anti-alkali. The combination of white vinegar and alkali will produce a chemical reaction, which can effectively dissolve the phenomenon of alkali on the glass.
Glass mold will affect the performance of the glass, for example: the transparency of the glass will decrease, affecting the optical performance; white spots and mildew spots appear on the surface of the glass, which can no longer be used for deep processing such as coating and mirror making; the mechanical strength of the glass is reduced. The degree of severe mildew will cause stains, and even the whole box of glass will be scrapped. At present, the methods for preventing glass mildew at the cold end mainly include the paper sandwich method, the anti-mold powder method, and the anti-mold liquid method.
1. Paper sandwich method
Paper can absorb water and prevent the formation of a large area of water film on the glass surface, thus effectively preventing the glass surface from becoming moldy. The better the quality of the paper, the greater the jam protection. The paper sandwich method has a certain anti-mold effect, but the effective anti-mold period is short. Once the glass is stored beyond the validity period, the acid anti-mold paper will produce "paper lines" on the glass, and it is not easy to clean, which is also a kind of damage to the glass. .
2. Anti-mold powder method
The anti-mold powder method refers to spraying anti-mold isolation powder on the glass surface, which is a cost-effective and simple surface protection measure, and it is also the most widely used method in the industry at present. Apply static electricity to the powder before spraying the powder, so that the powder is evenly distributed and firmly adsorbed on the surface of the glass plate.
3. Anti-mold liquid method
This method utilizes the suppressing effect of divalent ions, not only makes it difficult for water vapor to condense on the glass surface, but also forms a firm waterproof layer on the glass surface without the phenomenon of "paper grain". There are two methods of operation: one is to spray the anti-mold liquid on the upper surface of the glass in the form of mist; the other is to use a coating roller covered with soft rubber to apply the anti-mold liquid to the glass surface, just wait for natural drying.
The impact of high temperature can cause thermal cracking of the glass, which mostly occurs on sunny days in winter. This is because the heat generated by the low temperature and sunlight in winter causes a temperature difference in the plane direction of a piece of glass, forming a thermal shock and thermal cracking. The key to prevent this kind of phenomenon is not to store the glass in the open air, or to cover the glass with a layer of masking cloth.
Glass storage should meet the following precautions:
1. The storage place of glass should be far away from construction work and areas with frequent personnel activities, and should not be stored in areas with strong wind.
2. The glass should be stored in a dry and ventilated place or indoors with a roof so that the whole glass is not exposed to the sun. Untempered glass is more prone to thermal cracking than tempered glass.
3. The glass should be stored vertically, so that the angle between the glass surface and the ground is about 70°~80°, the top should rest on a solid object, and there should be a soft spacer between the two pieces of glass. The bottom can be padded with wood or other soft materials more than 100mm from the ground.
