Low-E glass is a coated glass that not only has high visible light transmittance, but also has strong infrared blocking characteristics, which can play the dual role of natural lighting and heat insulation and energy saving. After use, it can effectively reduce the loss of indoor heat in winter, and in summer, it can also block the secondary radiation of outdoor objects after being heated by the sun, thereby achieving the purpose of energy saving and consumption reduction. At the same time, Low-E glass has a high transmittance in the visible light band, which can make more use of natural lighting indoors, cater to the psychological desire of modern urbanites to return to nature, and save electricity for lighting. Low-E glass is divided into "online Low-E glass" and "offline Low-E glass" according to the production process.
"Line" refers to the float glass production line. Online coating means that the glass coating is completed once on the float line; offline coating means that the glass leaves the float line and is completed in another place (venue). Offline coating requires a separate coating production line, and the most common one is the "vacuum cathode magnetron sputtering" coating line.
Differences in technology
During the tempering process, online Low-E glass will be subjected to high temperatures close to the softening point of the glass. At this time, the color of the film may change slightly, resulting in color difference. Offline Low-E glass has less color difference under high temperature resistance.
The tempering of online Low-E glass is tempered with film. The presence of the film makes the heating of the two sides of the glass asymmetric, and the tempering process is difficult to control, which may cause a series of problems such as large tempering deformation. Offline Low-E glass is tempered first and then coated, so there is no problem.
Online Low-E glass is "hard coated" and the shelf life of the film layer is 30 years. Offline Low-E glass is "soft coated" and the film layer has poor firmness and can hardly be stored naked.
Offline Low-E glass must be processed into insulating glass in a very short time, and the edge coating must be removed when forming the insulating glass. Due to the weak respiration of insulating glass, water vapor, sulfide, and oxide enter the cavity, which will cause the offline Low-E glass to gradually lose its thermal insulation performance, darken its appearance, change color, and gradually develop a large number of mold spots. Online Low-E glass has good thermal insulation and will not show any color difference.

Uniformity of film layer: Since physical coating can strictly control the thickness and uniformity of the film layer, the appearance color of the product is uniform and consistent;
Appearance flatness: In the offline coating production process, tempering can be done before coating, so the flatness of the tempered product can be better controlled;

Appearance flatness: Since online coated glass can only be tempered after coating, there is a difference in heat absorption on both sides of the glass, which will cause the deformation of the tempered glass to increase and affect the appearance of the building;
