Glass has become an irreplaceable building material and decoration in our daily life due to its unique transparent texture. But one of its biggest characteristics is that it is fragile. So for cases of glass products weighing over 4000lbs, how to do the unloading safely?
For crates loaded sideways, just drive your forklift into the container and move the cases out.
For crates loaded lengthwise in the trailer, there are three types of equipment to help with the unloading: forklift skewer, U shape equipment, and triangular iron frame.
Warnings!
GLASS CASES CAN TIP OVER!
GLASS CAN TIP OVER WHEN BANDS ARE BROKEN!
CASES CAN COLLAPSE WHEN BANDS ARE REMOVED!
Prior to opening, all cases must be leaned against a wall or other support, and blocked under the base of the crate with a block or wedge to achieve a 5 degree angle to prevent glass from falling forward when the crate is opened.
Stand at the edge of the case and cut the steel bands. Glass can shift when the steel bands are cut. Never stand in front of the case where glass would tip over if the lean was inadequate. Use personal protective safety equipment – glass handling gloves, arm protection, and safety shoes, and hard hats and shoulder protection if the glass is large or being handled over shoulder height.
